The problem and the fix
Hard water does not just spot your dishes. It deposits scale inside your pipes, your water heater and every appliance that heats water, which shortens their life and costs you money that never shows up on a bill.
It is a fixable problem. The part people get wrong is the size, and a softener sized wrong costs the owner money for fifteen years.

Home water softener systems
Hardness varies more across this region than most people expect. Plattsville and Bright run 71 to 97 grains per gallon. Milton runs 8 to 10. A unit that is right in one of those towns is the wrong unit in the other.
Lower-grade systems wear down faster on hard, chlorinated municipal water, lose efficiency and need more attention. We install units built for the conditions here, so you get reliable performance and fewer issues year after year.

10% cross-linked resin
Soft water for years without babysitting the unit. The resin is why: ours is 10% cross-linked, which stands up better to chlorine, pressure and mineral-heavy water than the lower-grade resin most big-box softeners use. Like any resin it still wears over time, but higher cross-linking helps it last longer under those conditions.
The softener, the bypass loop and the drain run are all done by the same licensed plumbing contractor, to code. Nothing gets handed to a subcontractor, and nobody argues later about whose part failed.

Anything above about 7 grains per gallon is considered hard water. These are residential starting ranges. If your reading comes back well outside the range for your area we tell you before we put anything in, not after.
A house that has never had a softener. It needs a loop cut into the main and a drain run to the brine tank, which is where the extra $400 goes. If a bypass loop and a drain are already sitting there, the price you see is the price.
Very hard water, or a big household. That pushes you into a twin alternating unit, a second tank so one is always in service while the other regenerates. The sizing chart says when it applies.
A reading well off the local range. Uncommon on municipal water, normal on a well. The water test settles it before anyone orders equipment.

We tell Milton and Halton Hills their water is already soft and they probably do not need us. That is the reason to believe the rest of these numbers.
Iron staining, a sulphur smell and bacteria are separate problems with separate equipment, and they are common on wells around Bright and Plattsville. We identify which of them you have during the water test, and price it separately.
