Plumbing in Waterloo
Waterloo’s backflow program, its older housing and its hard water all show up in our work here.
Backflow
The City of Waterloo requires backflow devices on industrial, commercial, institutional and multi-residential properties, and encourages homeowners to add them on irrigation systems, boilers and pools. Testable devices are tested every year by a City-registered tester, and the report is due within 45 days of the reminder letter.
Lead
The City says homes built before 1950 were sometimes connected with lead pipes. It offers free in-home lead testing for homes built before 1989. If your service line needs replacing, we price it in writing.
Water
Waterloo shares the Region’s water supply, mostly groundwater, and it is hard. A softener protects water heaters, tankless units and fixtures.
Basements
Some Waterloo basements sit close to the water table, so a failed sump pump can mean a flooded floor. A battery backup covers power outages.
What we do in Waterloo

Most Waterloo homes benefit from one. The water is hard, and it scales up water heaters, faucets, dishwashers and tankless units. Our 30,000 grain softener, sized for most households of two to four on city water, is $1,500 plus HST installed.
For a like-for-like tank replacement, a 40 gallon electric tank is $1,700 and a 50 gallon power-vented gas tank is $2,900, both plus HST with a new mixing valve.
